Get a glowing, supple skin this winter

October 18, 2013 4:57 PM |

Edith Sitwell fondly quoted, “winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.” Yes it is true; but the wrath of winter might take a toll on your skin in the form of dryness, patchy skin and itchiness. Moisturizers, lotions and body creams may help but sometimes your skin desires something more. And then comes the role of body oils, which not only increase blood circulation but also moisturize, soothe, tighten the skin and even reduce stretch marks. Oils are loaded with essential fatty acids to nourish the skin and give it a protective shield.

Massage your skin with aromatic oils before retiring for the day for silky smooth skin and a peaceful sound sleep. Oils work wonders for your hair as well. You can choose you oil from one infused with your favourite fragrance or a fragrance free product. Some of the all-time favourite oils to get the softest skin, even during the coldest winter months are:

Jojoba oil- Combine Jojoba oil with few drops of lavender oil and Vitamin E oil and store in an air-tight container. You can massage this oil on your entire body and even apply it to your face. Make sure that your face is absolutely clean and also remember that just a dab will do, since jojoba can be too strong on the skin. While using it for dark circles, leave it on only for a couple of minutes and then use a cotton ball to remove it. This oil is very good for getting rid of wrinkles too.

Olive oil- This oil can be applied before a shower and can even be applied to moist skin after a bath to seal in the moisture and give the skin its essential nutrients.

Castor oil- this is another strong oil, which helps to alleviate dry and cracked skin. Pumpkin seed oil, almond oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil and avocado oil are the other oils apt to keep winter woes away.
