Season changeWinter is knocking at the door as temperatures are plunging across the country. But as the season changes it becomes imperative to take special care of your health. One must keep a watch on what you eat and drink because it can bring along a host of diseases. Let us go through some healthy tips to enjoy the weather.

BE CAUTIOUS

Common cold is a contagious disease that spreads rapidly. One should be cautious and maintain adequate distance from those who are infected with the disease. If at home, one should prevent sharing basic things such as towels, handkerchiefs or even food.

TAKE REST

If  you are down with cold and cough, you might feel feverish and have bodyache. Doctors always advise to take rest and ask to refrain from any exertion so that the problem does not aggravate. Your body can fight off the virus better if you’re well-rested.

EAT A BALANCED DIET

During the cold season, we find ourselves feasting on large quantities of food, which leads to weight gain. But you do not need to worry much as it’s natural. According to a nutritionist, chemical changes in the brain during winter increases the body’s desire for carbohydrates and bigger quantities of food. However, you need to proceed with caution and keep a watch on the portion size. Moreover, we should increase the intake of seasonal vegetables as they are rich in proteins, vitamins and iron, which increases body immunity.

WASH HANDS

Washing hands is one habit that should be followed round the year. We come in contact with several people and things during the day, without realising that we that the germs have been passed on. This habit prevents you from germs and reduces your chances from getting infected with allergies, especially cold and cough.

HYDRATE YOURSELF

In winters we do not tend to drink much water, as a result water level in the body decreases. Therefore, keeping a bottle handy is always advisable as water releases harmful toxins from our body. Avoid taking carbonated drinks as they stop the enzymes in the body from functioning efficiently resulting in indigestion. Instead drink warm beverages such as ginger tea and green tea.

EXERCISE IN WINTERS

Most of us become lazy during the winters and really have to struggle a lot to come out of warm and cozy quilts, which sends our exercise regime in for a toss. However, this can be taken care of by exercising at home. You can do simple stretch exercises like sit-ups, waist and knee bends to flex your muscles. Or else, Yoga is also an option as it can be performed indoors and is known to help reduce respiratory problems during winters.
