NW India heading for more rain; post noon showers fail to bring respite in East

April 17, 2014 2:17 PM |

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rain accompanied by strong winds of 30 to 50 kmph will be experienced in major parts of North India like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and northwest Uttar Pradesh during the next 48 hours. A Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir and a cyclonic circulation near central Pakistan and west Rajasthan will again bring in southwesterly winds from the Arabian sea to give showers in these parts.

The erstwhile cyclonic circulation over east Rajasthan has moved towards Central India over Madhya Pradesh and is likely to give one or two short spells of rain and thundershowers at Bhind, Bhitarwar, Gwalior, Morena, Sheopur and Shivpuri districts. Here the wind speed will be slightly weaker than the northwest plains. Adjoining areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh could also witness similar weather conditions during the next 24 hours.

Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, west Bengal and Jharkhand in East India, Chhattisgarh and Odisha in eastcentral India witnessed intense heat on Tuesday. Day temperatures in Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna and Bhagalpur went beyond 40°C. Temperatures in these places may drop a little due to passing clouds from northwest India.

Post noon showers in East India

Places closer to the Bay of Bengal over Jharkhand and West Bengal observed post noon showers after maximums broke the 40°C mark in places like Bankura and Jamshedpur. Bankura recorded 12 mm of rain, while Jamshedpur received traces during this period. Showers may occur again at places recording high temperatures.

The weather in South India remained rainy and cloudy in coastal Kerala and south Tamil Nadu coast, while north interior Karnataka, Vidarbha and Telangana observed very hot weather. According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, pre-monsoon showers will continue in southern peninsula. Interior parts will also receive rain but with decreased intensity.
