We are in the second week of April but maximum temperatures are yet to pick in northwest India and some other parts of the country. Weather in India is expected to remain dry in most parts of the country this week. Here's how it will unfold.
North and Northwest India
The week starts with rain in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab but the next four days are expected to remain dry in the region as the Western Disturbance is about to move out. According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, another weather system expected from Saturday onwards will bring some rain in Jammu & Kashmir and parts of Himachal Pradesh. Remaining parts of north and northwest India will not witness much rain as the Western Disturbance will remain in the higher latitudes this time. Without any weather system, day temperatures in the region will rise gradually. The region is expected to witness one of its hottest day on Saturday as winds will be coming from the land.
Central India
Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha would be the hottest states of the country during the week in spite of the fact that some parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh may observe rain at the start of the week due to wind discontinuity extending from Odisha to Kerala across Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Day temperatures may settle in the higher thirties or early forties during the week.
East India
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are experiencing intense heat since the start of the week and according to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the region will not get any reprieve from the hot weather. Temperatures would continue to hover around 40°C during the week. Meanwhile, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim would witness some rain during the first half of the week, due to the passage of Western Disturbance. These places will therefore experience comfortable weather compared to eastern parts.
South India
Weather in South India will remain hot and dry during the week. The extreme southern peninsular region and some parts of interior Karnataka and north Tamil Nadu will witness pre-monsoon rain till Wednesday due to a cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep. However, as the weekend approaches, rain will reduce in interiors, while coastal areas of Kerala like Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu will witness rain throughout the week.
Northeast India
After receiving rain throughout last week and at the start of this week, northeastern states will witness decrease in rain from Thursday onwards. The cyclonic circulation over Assam which was bringing lots of moisture to the region is expected to become less marked. So day temperatures may rise beyond average in the region after a period of normal temperatures last week.
