Indian weather has always been notorious and unpredictable. It is not always easy to predict what weather has stored in for the economy and the agricultural sector of the country.

Sowing of a particular crop depends massively on the weather forecast. However, this Monsoon bought a lot of hope for the agriculture industry keenly, for the states producing Gram or Chana.

Gram is one of the most popularly sowing crops in India and Indian states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Karnataka are the largest producers of Gram in the country. During a normal season, all the four Chana producing states cultivates on 30.595, 15.30, 13.712 and 9.232 lakh hectares of area.

As per reports, this year in total an area of around 98.39 lakh hectares has been used for Gram cultivation in comparison with that of 89.08 lakh hectares sown at the corresponding period of last year.

This year, overall, 32.52 lakh hectares of Chana has been sown in Madhya Pradesh, 17.514 lakh hectares in Rajasthan, Maharashtra used 18.40 lakh hectares for sowing gram while 10.80 lakh hectares of Chana was sown in Karnataka.

As the Monsoon season in the country went by pretty well, it improved the Chana sowing in the country. Moreover, farmers were fortified by the higher MSP of Rs 4000 per quintals plus bonuses and attractive market prices. This further led to further boosting up of the Chana crop in India.

Since the weather seems promising in the majority of Chana producing states, this season too seems to be favorable to be a good crop year for Chana crop. This can be further marked by the prevailing Chana prices in different markets.

The anticipation of a plentiful domestic crop, profuse imported crop and a stable increase in arrivals of the new crop across the country have influenced the Chana prices in chief markets of the country. As per reports, in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh Chana is trading at a rate of Rs. 6300 while in the same city, Rajasthan Chana is seen presiding at Rs.6700 per quintals.
