Hoax Uncovered: Earth will not witness 15 days of darkness in November

September 24, 2015 2:25 PM |

If you too fell for the viral news which talks about how Earth will witness 15 days of darkness in November this year, then you can relax because it is a complete hoax. That’s right, Earth will not observe 15 days of darkness in November.

Contrary to popular belief, NASA administrator Charles Bolden issued no confirmation regarding the Earth plunging into days of darkness in the month of November this year. Scientists at NASA too reacted to the hoax and rubbished it right away.

However, several theories circulated the internet during this time. Some theories claimed that it was a sign of doomsday nearing upon us; others proposed that some intergalactic or space mumbo-jumbo phenomenon was responsible for the approaching ‘days of darkness’; and some even ended up relating it to climate change and global warming.

The story was doubted right from the start, but the word ‘NASA’ caught most readers off-guard. Many believed the story and shared it on social media platforms. Within a week, social media portals like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and even Quora were flooding with discussions on the ‘days of darkness’ story. But once NASA clarified that it had issued no statement at all, e-readers were quick to wave the news aside as yet another sensational rumor.
