New York City reels under intense heat, thunderstorms likely

July 28, 2016 6:18 PM |

heatwave in New YorkScorching summer heat in New York City for seventh consecutive day has taken its toll on the residents. In the last 15 years, the city has witnessed such high temperatures for so long for the first time since the year 2002.

The extreme heat wreaked havoc over NYC last Thursday and temperatures will continue to be the same until another day. Not only this, the feel like temperature has remained above the 100 degree mark for the entire week.

Commuters continue to complain of hot and humid weather while on Subway platforms and train carriages. The temperatures have been so high that cooling centres have been opened across the five boroughs in the New York City.

These hot weather conditions can be attributed to the high pressure heat dome due to which hot air continues to be trapped near the surface since last Thursday. Due to this weather feature, heat warnings have been issued for 12 US states.

However, good news is in store for all New Yorkers as temperatures are expected to take a dip very soon. By Friday, weather conditions are expected to cool down and residents can finally heave a sigh of relief. In fact, the chances of thunderstorms during the weekend cannot be ruled out paving way for more pleasant weather conditions.
