Marginal relief from heat wave in southern Pakistan

June 30, 2015 5:55 PM |

pak weatherThe weather across Pakistan is mainly dominated by severe heat wave which has claimed more than 1000 lives. Among the dead are mostly the homeless. Also, it is Ramazan month in which all Muslim people are prohibited to eat and drink in daylight.

The situation has prompted some clerics to ask people to stop fasting if there is health risk. The southern and south western parts of Pakistan are bearing the brunt of heat wave. Temperatures have been settling above the 40°C mark for a long time but, there has been some relief from the searing heat in the region.

This is mainly due to a cyclonic circulation over the region which has enabled the commencement of moist southwesterly winds. Marginal drop in the temperatures across the region are being observed now due to change in winds.

The weather across central and northern parts of Pakistan is much better as there has been some rainfall in the region. This rainfall is attributed to a Western Disturbance (WD) which has been affecting the region. It’s due to this weather system that the temperatures have been under check. The rainfall has been light to moderate ranging from 10 mm to 25 mm across the region. There is going to be a brief dry spell in the region and rainfall could be witnessed from July 5 onwards.
