Scattered showers expected for Eastern US

July 27, 2016 2:32 PM |

US Weather

As per the National Weather Service (NWS), scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over much of the eastern two-thirds of the United States during the middle of the week. These storms are anticipated to be severe and can produce heavy rainfall across the region.

According to Storm Prediction Center, these thunderstorms are strong enough to produce severe gusts, large hail, and isolated tornadoes over parts of western and central Nebraska and South Dakota Tuesday afternoon and evening. Destructive gusts, a few near extreme limits are also possible over parts of the Virginia/North Carolina Tidewater region up to parts of the Ohio Valley.

Towards south, a wide area of low pressure along with deep and tropical moisture will support frequent showers and thunderstorms across the central Gulf Coast states. These thunderstorms may possibly lead to flash flooding in some areas.

Showers and storms are expected to become more widespread farther north on Wednesday as well, across the lower and mid-Mississippi valley.

Above average temperatures are likely to continue along much of the eastern US through mid-week.

Afternoon maximum temperatures will again be around 5 to 10 °F above average for numerous areas on Wednesday.

Through the West, high pressure will preserve dry conditions in place during the mid-week, with afternoon highs projected to be 5 to 15 °F above average.
