Weather Forecast for February 09: Northern plains, Delhi-NCR to witness single digit temperatures

February 8, 2016 8:11 PM |

The Western Disturbance which brought snowfall over Shimla and many other places of Himachal Pradesh has now moved away.

Another fresh Western Disturbance will start affecting the Western Himalayas by February 9. Isolated rain and snow is expected over Jammu and Kashmir on the 9th. The intensity of rain will increase by the 10th and the rain belt will cover parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Light rainfall cannot be ruled out over Punjab.

Minimums have fallen by almost 4 to 8°C over the Northern plains. Night temperatures will settle between 5 and 9°C in Amritsar, Hisar, Ambala, Delhi and other places across Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR. No major change likely in minimums for the next 2 days. Night temperatures will start rising once again after the 10th of Feb due to change in wind direction.

Cold northerly winds will reach East India after another 24 hours. Thereafter, temperatures could fall marginally over the region. Tomorrow morning, we can expect shallow fog in the Indo-Gangetic plains.

The cyclonic circulation over Tripura will bring scattered light rain over Assam and other states of Northeast India.

We can see an anti-cyclone of South Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas of Telangana. It will keep the weather warm and sunny in western and central parts of the country.

A wind discontinuity will develop over Coastal Kerala. Cool and dry northerly winds will merge with the moist northeasterly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal. This will lead to the development of rain-bearing clouds over coastal areas of Kerala and Karnataka. Rain will bring the much needed relief from hot and humid weather in Kerala.

Weather will remain mainly dry in rest of the country.

Minimums in both Delhi and Lucknow will settle at 9°C. Maximums will settle around 24°C.

Ahmedabad and Mumbai will record day temperatures at 31°C. Hyderabad will be quite warm with maximum at 34°C.
