UNDERPREPARED and FLOOD-STRICKEN J&K BEAT 40 TIME RANJI CHAMPS MUMBAIShubham Khajuria, a 19-year-old Jammu & Kashmir batsman,  was left stranded on the first floor of a Srinagar hotel during the J&K floods. The young cricketer struggled to find food for six days before he was airlifted from the location. But the experience, as per Shubham, only made him stronger. The quote echoed in Wankhede on Wednesday as Shubham's valiant knocks of 107 & 78 lifted J&K to a historic win against Ranji kingpins Mumbai. The flood-hit state of Jammu & Kashmir rejoiced as the cricket version of David vs Goliath unfolded in a low scoring yet riveting encounter.

Forty time Ranji champions Mumbai took on underdogs Jammu & Kashmir in their opening game of this year's tournament. The Parvez Rasool led J&K team had to face preparation woes as floods in the state rendered the Srinagar based Sher-i-Kashmir stadium 15 feet under water. The Ranji selection trials for the state team never took place. Despite all adversities though, the boys from the valley completed a dramatic four-wicket victory against Ranji bigshots Mumbai.

The dream of creating a Naya Kashmir could not have received a better morale boost. The valley was badly affected by adverse weather conditions which wrecked havoc in most parts of the state. But with this win, the battle to overcome weather atrocities has surely received an impetus.
