Newfound Nashik: Wine capital, adventure hub, and more

Nashik is the third largest city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The city is located on the foothills of the Western Ghats, bordering the banks of the river Godavari. Traditionally known for its rich past and religious aura, Nashik has emerged as a popular tourist destination in recent times, offering fresh places of interest for the visitors.

Weather in Nashik remains hot and humid during the summer season. Day temperature in summer settles between 30 to 40 degrees Celsius. Moderate to heavy rainfall is observed in Nashik during Monsoon. Rain showers restore the pristine nature of the city and recolor every aspect of its visually stunning geography.

Winter is the best time to visit Nashik. Temperature settles in the 20s during day time and largely comfortable conditions are experienced. Winter in Nashik lasts from December to February. However, the last few days of January and the first couple of weeks in February are most apt for a visit to the city.

Nashik hosts the immensely popular ‘Kumbh Mela’ every 12 years. Panchavati is a religiously significant place and is visited by millions of Hindu devotees annually. In addition to this, Ramkund, Ratangad, Muktidham Temple, Kalaram Temple, Sundarnarayan Temple, Trimbakeshwar, and Someshwar Temple are other popular places of religious interest in and around the city.

Wine has become a center of attraction for Nashik city, as far as tourism is concerned. Wine tasting is a fast-catching trend in India with more and more people signing up for such gatherings across the country. Well, Nashik is known as the ‘Wine Capital of India’, and rightly so. Vineyard tours in the city have grown in scale and frequency over the last decade or so. Sula Vineyards and York Winery are Nashik’s two popular names when it comes to wine-tasting. Nashik’s annual SulaFest is one of the most extravagant wine festivals in India. This new-found interest has helped foster tourism in this part of the country.

Apart from all this, adventure sports have also become a key aspect of the Nashik experience. A wide range of mountain sports and adventure activities can be availed in places over Nashik. Trekking, boating, sports in forests, water sports, aero sports, rappelling, rock climbing, and valley crossing make every trip to Nashik truly memorable.

Other than this, Nashik is making strides as a developing city too. There’s so much to observe here besides the beautiful scenery. Nashik as a city offers a lot for shutterbugs of all shapes and sizes. Lastly, local cuisine is another reason why Nashik should be on your travel map. Seafood is immensely popular in Nashik, and right from fancy restaurants to humble shacks, lip-smacking delicacies are never too far away.
