Weather Forecast for the week in India from January 23 to January 29

04:20 PM

Western Himalayas will witness a rainy and snowy week ahead as back to back Western Disturbances are likely to affect the region. Isolated pockets in South India along with Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are also expected to witness some rains

Let's take a look at the weather forecast for the week.

North India

Heavy to very heavy rain and snow is likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh January 24 onward and is expected to continue until January 27. Thereafter, the intensity of rain and snow will reduce and light weather activity will continue. Uttarakhand is also expected to witness good rain and snow during this period.

Around January 25, many parts of North Indian plains including PunjabHaryana, and Delhi may witness some rains. Isolated hailstorm with squally winds is also expected over Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan.

Maximum temperatures will witness a drop by 5 to 7 degrees until January 27 over the Northwestern Plains. Minimums may also witness a marginal drop by 2 to 3 degrees initially and thereafter by 5 to 7 degrees.

Central India

Warm weather conditions will prevail over many parts of Madhya Pradesh as well as Chhattisgarh. Light rain and thundershowers are expected over Northeast Madhya Pradesh on January 26 night or morning hours of Janaury 27.

The coastal stations will continue to observe very warm days during the next 24 hours. Temperatures are likely to witness a drop by 2 to 3 degrees. Mornings will continue to be above normal by 2 to 4 degrees. Few pockets of Gujarat may receive very light rain on January 26.

East and Northeast India

Shallow to moderate fog will persist over parts of East and Northeast India. Weather conditions are expected to remain dry as no weather system is affecting the region.

Minimum temperatures are expected rise marginally. Maximums will settle close to the normal levels.

South India

Weather conditions will remain dry till January 24. Thereafter, scattered light to moderate rain is expected over parts of Kerala and Coastal Tamil Nadu January 25 onward. Thereafter, rains will intensify and cover most parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Kerala, South Karnataka and southern coast of Andhra Pradesh around January 26 and 27.

Light rain will also occur over South Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru on January 26, 27 and 28.

I am from cochin, Kerala. I haven’t seen much of rain here since the onset of SWM which is unusual. But Last couple of years, we have received excess SWM rainfall.is there anything wrong? We used to get heavy rains at this time of the year but all we get now is scattered rainfall and an unusual breeze in the noon hours and evening. Rest of the India is getting heavy rainfall and one of the rainiest pocket in the country like kerala is getting scanty rain through out the monsoon season. I doubt something wrong. I will be so glad if you could comment on my views. Thanks and cheers.

There has been only one large weather system in the Bay of Bengal this season, which is the low pressure over east India now. This system developed in North Bay of Bengal thus had little or no effect on Southern states.
Kerala gets heavier continuous rain when there are one or two systems that form in the centre of Bay of Bengal, and there have been none so far. Thus less rainfall in Kerala this year yet.
We don’t see much rainfall taking place in the next 5-6 days in this region as of now.

Good amounts of pre-Monsoon showers are expected after 4 days in Mumbai.
Monsoon and pre-Monsoon are two separate periods so we do not combine the records of the two.
TN has received 227 mm of rain against a normal of 121 mm of Pre-Monsoon in March, April and May.
That’s more than 187% of normal rain.

Pre-Monsoon activity began in the entire country a while ago. In fact, in South India it is coming to an end.
Any rain/thunderstorms you felt in the last few weeks were a part of it.

      Thank you

North Western and Central India heating up as usual-being the first week of May. Still no signs of heat wave though (temperatures are still below 5 degrees above normal), baring isolated pockets in Punjab. East India yet to face the brunt as temperatures are tempered by regular Nor Westers.. Heat build up by mid-may is essential for a timely and strong monsoon.
