It was nothing short of a fairytale ending for ‘giant-killer’ Arvind Kejriwal, as his party shattered records to register a monumental victory in the Delhi assembly elections, earlier this year. And what followed was nothing short of a nightmare with stings, internal factions, and controversies clouding the ‘party with a change’. But work was carried out and promises were fulfilled. The intent with which Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party entered the political scene is still very much alive. We take a look at six eco-friendly steps which have been taken by the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi.

The idea behind this is to bring down the prices of fruits and vegetables that are usually transported in trucks. This move is also expected to bring down pollution levels as it would lead to fewer number of trucks plying on the roads.

Moreover, the city’s reputation of being the most polluted city in the world, is surely not a badge that Delhiites are proud to wear. Delhi government has chalked out plans to bring down pollution levels in the city by up to 25%. They plan to do it by making the city completely dust-free. Initial steps include planting grass on dust patches and repairment work of main roads.

AAP government in Delhi has already stated that only 70% of Delhi is connected to the city’s sewage system. The government plans to connect all localities in Delhi to the sewage network. This will reduce the amount of untreated sewage entering Yamuna. Also, the party has talked about undertaking a crackdown on construction, encroachments, and industrial discharge.

Public Transport

New permits and inter-state permits will encourage people to switch to public transport. CNG driven auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws will help in bringing down pollution levels in the capital.

In addition to all this, recently, the National Green Tribunal has asked Delhi government to ban all diesel vehicles older than 10 years. Such vehicles, coming from other states, will also be denied entry into Delhi. This move will also prove to be crucial in bringing down pollution levels in the national capital.
