Blazing heat grips India, no respite likely

May 4, 2015 1:34 PM |

Summers in IndiaIntense heat has swept most parts of the country, with mercury hovering above 40-degree mark at several places. Moreover, no respite is likely in near future from the sweltering heat.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, almost all the places in India barring coastal areas and Northeast India, are reeling under scorching heat and are recording maximum temperatures above 40°C.

In the absence of any weather activity and weather systems, hot and dry northwesterlies are blowing over most parts of the country, which are responsible for rising temperatures.

Let us have look at the maximum temperatures on Sunday across the country:

Table-Temperatures across India

May has commenced on a warmer note, unlike March and April which had seen a wet start. North India had been under the influence of Western Disturbances till now, which had kept temperatures under check. But now there aren't any new systems approaching, giving way to rise in day temperatures.

Similarly, no cyclonic circulations are seen over Central and East India, resulting in sharp increase in maximums across the region.

Though South India continues to witness rain on account of wind discontinuity and pre-monsoon trough, the day temperatures have been soaring as the rainfall activity happens mostly in the evening, which largely affects the night temperature.

As per the forecast by Skymet, people will have to brave the heat for some more time as we can only expect some relief post May 10.
