After battling Cyclone Vardah, Chennai rains have reduced significantly. However, city has been receiving on and off drizzling and light rains on account of the remnants of the cyclonic storm.
Now, Chennai rains are all set to bounce back with the formation of a fresh weather system in Bay of Bengal. A feeble trough is likely to develop in Southwest Bay of Bengal, close to Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast.
This is likely to intensify the flow of humid northeasterly winds over the region, which will bring rain and thundershowers over Tamil Nadu including Chennai on Friday. But the intensity of rains will be confined to light only.

Day maximums have already risen and are presently settling above normal. This coupled with the increase in humidity levels will lead to formation of convective clouds, bringing rains over the state capital.
Chennai faced the maximum wrath of Cyclone Vardah, that had made landfall close to the city as a severe cyclonic storm. It had also given three-digit rainfall, with the squally winds speeding up to 130 kmph.
December had started on a rainy note for the highly rain-deficit Chennai. But two back to back cyclones in Bay of Bengal have changed the scenario and the city has already surpassed its monthly average rain in first half itself.
November, which is the rainiest month for the city, saw mere 50 mm of rain against the monthly mean of whopping 407 mm.
