Bitter chill continues to grip Delhi-NCR, as mercury dropped to new levels on Thursday morning. The minimum temperatures settled at 3.4°C today morning, which also happens to be the lowest night temperature so far in the season.
The present temperatures is four degrees below the normal and with this, the city has come under the ambit of cold wave.
Though day was sunny and bright but chilly winds made the day slightly uncomfortable. Thereafter, the mercury dropped steeply during the evening hours on account of unabated northwesterly winds.
Further, no relief is likely during the next 24 hours as we expect mercury to hover around 3°C.
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, the ongoing winter conditions are due to the continuous flow of cold and dry northwesterly winds. These icy cold winds are blowing directly from the snow-clad Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Being dry in nature, these winds have also reduced the humidity levels significantly, which is further aiding the dip in temperatures.
Weathermen predict that this chilly weather will continue to grip the national capital for another 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, we can get some respite in wake of approaching Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir.
The system will in turn change the wind pattern from dry and cold winds to relatively warmer and humid southeasterly. This will lead to increase in minimum temperatures that will start crawling back to normal once again.
But for now, Delhiites will have to brave the freezing weather.
