Delhi records hottest February day of the decade

March 1, 2017 5:12 PM |

weather in DelhiThe maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR rose significantly on Tuesday and settled at 32.5°C. This was seven notches above the normal average, making it the hottest February day since 2007.

In fact, on February 20 also, mercury had settled 32.4°C. Prior to this, Delhi had observed its hottest day of the decade on February 28, 2010 when day maximum had risen to 31.5°C.

February has been witnessing relatively warmer weather, with temperatures settling above average for most part of the month.

The reason behind the hot weather can be attributed to the absence of winter rains. Moreover, passage of back to back Western Disturbances did not let the cold northwesterly winds reach the northern plains including Delhi-NCR.

Not much changes are likely in the temperature profile on Wednesday, though there will be marginal drop of a degree or two. Today, day temperatures are likely to hover around 31°C on account of partly cloudy sky.

The cloudy weather has also resulted in significant rise in minimum temperatures. On Wednesday, Delhi-NCR recorded morning temperature at 18°C, which was almost six degrees above normal.

Further in March, we expect similar weather conditions will continue in the coming days. Though few spell of rains can be expected in between but it will not be significant in nature. Thus, it will not have much impact over the temperatures and they will continue to rise.
