Delhi witnessed an unexpected duststorm late Thursday night, with just traces of rain being reported from Palam and Safdurjung Observatories.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the weather originated over Rajasthan that travelled towards Delhi via North Rajasthan along with strong winds of 28 kmph gusting up to 45 kmph.
Duststorm did not have any impact on the temperatures and Delhiites are expected to witness yet another warm day on Friday with maximum temperature settling around 36°C.
For the last three days, day temperatures in the national capital have been soaring above 35-degree mark, which is almost five degrees above normal. On March 26, Delhi recorded a maximum of 36.5°C, followed by 35°C on March 25 and 35.1°C on March 24.
However, some respite is expected in next 48 hours as an approaching Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir aligned with induced cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and Rajasthan will bring widespread heavy rain over Northwest India including Delhi.
The rainy spell in Delhi will commence from Sunday lasting up to Monday. It might extend onto Tuesday but the intensity will reduce significantly. In wake of the system, maximum temperatures will take a dip, bringing much needed relief to the people from the scorching sun and heat. Meanwhile, minimum temperature will register a marginal rise only.
Delhi has not witnessed any weather activity since last 10 days. But, this will be the fourth rainy spell for the capital. With 86.3 mm of rain recorded already in this month so far, the city has surpassed the all-time high of 78.2 mm, recorded in 1915.
