Dry weather conditions to persist in Delhi

September 1, 2015 12:57 PM |

Delhi WeatherDelhi received above normal rains in July and August this year. However, September is the month when Southwest Monsoon starts to withdraw from the country. In Delhi, Monsoon usually begins to withdraw from the third week of September.

It is no secret that rainfall in Delhi during the month of September is far lower as compared to the core Monsoon months. The national capital’s normal for the month of September is just 121 mm. This is less than half of Delhi’s normal for August which stands at 253 mm. The wide gap can be attributed to the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon.

As for overall weather conditions, largely uncomfortable weather conditions prevail in Delhi during this time of the year. Reduced rains give way to rise in temperatures which then leads to hot and humid conditions in the city. Simply speaking, there’s an increase in discomfort when it comes to weather.

The average day temperature for Delhi during the month of August is 33.6°C, whereas the city’s average for September is 34.1°C. As a result, a marginal increase is likely in day temperatures. As for the night temperature, a dipping trend is observed in the city during September. From here on, night temperatures continue to dip as winter approaches. The average low in Delhi during August is 26.4°C and the city’s average low for September reads 24.8°C.

Mainly dry weather conditions have been prevailing in Delhi since last few days. No significant weather activity has been observed in the city and temperatures have been settling in the high mid-30s. Delhi has been observing clear skies and sunny conditions. Windy afternoons have been helpful in suppressing the heat to some extent. But with no major weather activity likely in coming days, only dry and warm conditions are expected to prevail in Delhi.
