Weather in IndiaIndia is a vast country with varied weather conditions prevailing across the length and breadth of the country simultaneously.

At present, several parts of North, East and Central India are reeling under severe cold conditions while, in South India, the summer season seems to have entered the state of Kerala.

Minimums are below 5°C in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and North Rajasthan. In fact, many places recorded the season’s lowest temperatures on Friday morning.

Delhi recorded 4.2°C as minimum temperature while Karnal was almost freezing at 2.2°C. Even Agra (3.6°C), Ambala (5.4°C) and Gwalior (3.5°C) recorded the season’s lowest temperature today morning.

On the other hand, Kerala seems to be sizzling with day temperatures in mid-thirties. On Thursday Kozhikode recorded 36.2°C, which is the all-time highest maximum. The second highest being 36°C recorded on January 30, 1975.

Kannur also recorded the highest maximum of 35.6°C, witnessed in last 10 years in the month of January. January 10, 2009 and January 29, 2006 also witnessed maximum climb up to 35.6°C in Kannur. Alappuzha also recorded maximum as 35.6°C.

Winter starts making its way out from Peninsular India, by the first week of February. The sun starts it southward journey and people in the southern states feel the summer heat. The situation is not as bad in Tamil Nadu because here winds are still coming from the sea. Kerala is predominantly receiving winds from the land. There is kind of contrasting weather along the East and West Coasts of Peninsular India.

In the absence of any rainfall in Kerala, temperatures will keep hanging around mid-thirties. Weather will be hot, humid and uncomfortable for the next few days.
