Good showers lash Andhra Pradesh, more in the offingAfter the wrath of Cyclone Roanu, which resulted in heavy rains over several areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, rains took a backseat over the state. So much so that the mercury began to soar over many parts of the coastal region.

In fact, during the past few days, isolated pockets of Coastal Andhra Pradesh were also observing heatwave conditions. Temperatures were being recorded well above the 40-degree mark. Residents were craving for some relief in the form of rains.

Now, during the last 24 hours, good showers have lashed parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Temperatures have also taken a dip resulting in the abatement of heatwave conditions from the region.

A cyclonic circulation is over West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and Bihar. Also, a trough is extending from this system across Odisha up to coastal Andhra Pradesh. The combined effect of these systems have given rains over the state.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Visakhapatnam recorded a whopping 58 mm of rain, followed by Machilipatnam where 11.8 mm rainfall was received. Other areas to have received rain include Bapatla 11 mm, Kalingapatnam 2.6 mm, and Ongole 1.8 mm rainfall.

These rains are likely to continue for another 24 hours. While heavy rains will be confined over the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, the possibility of light showers over the rest of the state cannot be ruled out.
