Active Monsoon conditions are now being witnessed over East India, after a rain deficit June.
A low pressure is likely to move across the Indo Gangetic plains, which would bring good rains during next 48 hours over plains of West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. Isolated heavy spells cannot be ruled out. After a long gap these regions are likely to receive good rains.
As of now, July 1, the Gangetic plains are rain deficit to the tune of 31%, Jharkhand 40%, Bihar 25%, and Odisha 21%. Kolkata is rain deficit to the tune of 54%. Kolkata received 32 mm of rain on June 13. Thereafter, only light rainfall was observed over the area.

East India, including Kolkata, is likely to recover soon as good rainy spells are approaching these regions.
No low pressure area was formed around the Northwest Bay of Bengal over the last one week. All the Monsoon systems formed over the Bay were tracking towards Central India. Therefore, East India remained dry for the last about 10 days. Though patchy rains were observed, as a whole the region remained rain deficit.
During last 24 hours, Diamond Harbour in West Bengal received 27 mm of rainfall, Jalpaiguri 68.4 mm, and Malda 32 mm. Jamshedpur in Jharkhand received 26 mm of rainfall.
