Heavy rainfall leads to cloudburst in Uttarakhand, kills 30

Thirty people were killed in cloudburst in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Friday after heavy rains lashed the entire region.

Reports of nearly 25 feared dead in the Bastadi area are also coming in after the cloudburst. Bastadi is located 50 km from Pithoragarh town in Uttarakhand. Local villagers till now have dragged out 5 bodies and more bodies are expected under the debris.

In Suva village of the Dharchula area agriculture field was completely destroyed along with three bridges linking the village.

All major rivers in the region have also risen over 54 mm rainfall after the heavy rainfall. The Thal-Munsyari road has been cut-off creating a major havoc for the people.

Due to the incessant rains, traffic jams were reported over the Yamunotri highway, near Kharadi. Kedarnath highway has also stopped the entry of heavy vehicles after the landslide at Gangolgaon.

More rains are expected over Nainital, Udhamsingh Nagar and Champawat districts and high alert has been issued in these areas.
