Moreover, the much-awaited ongoing spell is likely to continue for another few days.

The active Western Disturbance is still moving across Jammu and Kashmir but will clear away the region by Thursday. With this, intensity of rain and snow may reduce on January 5 but scattered activity will continue.

However, another active Western Disturbance is approaching the state in quick succession. At present, the system is marked over North Pakistan and is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir by January 6.

According to weathermen, the system is touted to be even more stronger than the present one. As a result, intensity of rain and snow will pick up pace by Friday once again.

We can expect, widespread heavy snowfall to mar most areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Uttarakhand.

The rainy spell is likely to continue till January 8, thereafter the system will move away from the region and dry weather conditions will make a comeback.

The ongoing spell of rain and snow was a much needed one in terms of weather as well as agriculture. In absence of these active Western Disturbance, there has been no significant spell of rain and snow. As a result, winters have been mild so far both for the hills as well as the plains of North India.
