Heat wave has not only gripped the plains of North India, but the hills are also experiencing hot and uncomfortable conditions during day time. Some of the places in the region are observing heat wave conditions, which are making matters worse. For example, Shimla, the most favoured holiday destination of North India saw the day temperature settle 5 degrees above the monthly normal at 29.3°C, which amounts to heat wave.
March to May is the peak time for tourism in the hills. Thousands of tourists flock to the hill states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to escape the excruciating heat experienced in the plains during the summer months. But the hot weather in the hills are forcing tourists to shelve their plans.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the day temperatures in the hills are hovering in the low thirties which is not very usual for the region. For instance, Kullu and Dharamsala on Tuesday saw the maximum settle at 32.5°C and 32.4°C, respectively.
In Uttarakhand, Nainital also recorded the day temperature at 30°C on Tuesday. In Almora the day temperature was a whopping 34.5°C. Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh also observed the day temperature settle at 34.3°C and 31°C, respectively.
These temperatures in the hills are going to sustain for at least 3-4 days before a Western Disturbance approaches the region and gives some good amounts of rain.
