Jamshedpur records first three digit rainfall of the seasonSouthwest Monsoon made an onset over Jharkhand after the second week of June. However, Jamshedpur, which usually receives good rains during the month of June remained rain deprived. In fact, after the onset of Monsoon, the city recorded rainfall in double digit only twice.

However, on June 22, rains picked up pace and Jamshedpur received 24 mm of rain. The good news doesn’t end here, the very next day, Jamshedpur received hefty rains with amounts recording to a whopping 106 mm in merely 21 hours.

These rains can be attributed to the trough which is extending from Rajasthan across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal. Jamshedpur is in close proximity of this trough, which is why the city has been receiving intense rains for the past two days.

During the last ten years in the month of June, Jamshedpur has recorded rainfall in three digit thrice. In fact, the city recorded a whopping 338.1 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours on June 18, 2008, which is the all-time highest rainfall record.

So far, Jamshedpur has received 217.1 mm of rain against its monthly average of 248 mm. With about six days left in June, the city is most likely to reach its monthly rainfall amount as on and off rains will continue over the city.

As far as rainfall in June is concerned, Jamshedpur has displayed a much better performance as compared to June 2015 when the city recorded a mere 150 mm rain for the entire month.
