Monsoon is on the threshold of covering entire country that too before its scheduled time of arrival. It is not a frequent scenario wherein Monsoon had made a delayed onset but finished well before the time.
First half of June was rather disappointing wherein deficiency kept mounting. While, second half of the month saw Monsoon gathering pace, leading to significant drop in countrywide rainfall deficiency. As on June 29, the countrywide cumulative rainfall deficiency stands at 12%, which had once mounted to 25%.
Increase in Monsoon activity has been on account of twin Monsoon systems that had also pushed Monsoon ahead into some more parts of the country. Not only this, these systems had also triggered rains even over those areas where Monsoon has not reached yet.
However, worrying pocket has been Gujarat which has been highly deficit so far. Though the rains have made appearance over the state during the last two days but delayed onset of Monsoon has resulted is high deficiency.
While, West Coast has been recording some heavy to very heavy rains, with few places recording three-digit rainfall.
Now as we move further, Monsoon will continue to be active over the most parts of the country. Therefore, it seems that the decreasing trend of rainfall deficiency will continue. With this, we may soon see the countrywide deficiency dipping to single digit as we enter into July.
Weather forecast for July
According to Skymet Weather, we expect July rains to cover the deficiency leftover by June during the first half of the month itself.
The country will come under the influence of three weather systems by then and will see some heavy rain activity during the first week of July.
The depression in North Arabian Sea will continue to prevail. Though the system is marked off the Oman coast but it will continue to push humid winds up to Gujarat and Rajasthan. While, the other cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh and adjoining parts of Maharashtra will move in west-northwest direction towards Madhya Pradesh.
The third will be the fresh Western Disturbance which is likely to travel across Jammu and Kashmir by July 1. With all these systems together, rain activity will now shift over Central and North India. Meanwhile, West Coast will also continue with good Monsoon rains.
