Kolkata receives light Monsoon rains

June 27, 2016 5:54 PM |

Kolkata receives light Monsoon rains While Southwest Monsoon made an onset over Kolkata a while ago, Monsoon rains seemed to have disappeared from the City of Joy. In fact, the city has been hot and humid for the past couple of days making the residents crave for some rains.

So much so that for the past three days, maximums have been settling above the 35 degree mark. Minimum temperatures have also been recording above 30 degrees. After recording heavy Monsoon rains of 40 mm rain on June 23, the Dum Dum observatory in Kolkata has remained dry.

However, it seems like rain gods have finally answered to the prayers of the residents. Light rain commenced over Kolkata. Between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm today, Dum Dum observatory recorded 1 mm of rain and Alipore recorded 0.2 mm rainfall.

The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has been increasing the moisture incursion over the area resulting in light rainfall activity over the city. While rains have occurred over Kolkata, the temperatures will continue to be the same. No significant relief is expected from the prevailing weather conditions.

Throughout June, on and off rains will continue over the City of Joy. However, good showers will only occur after June, which means, July is expected to commence on a rainy note over Kolkata and some relief is expected during that period.
