Light rainfall in Marathwada for next few days

October 2, 2015 12:31 PM |

MarathwadaMonsoon may have withdrawn from parts of North India but it is still active over parts of East India and Northeast India and shows signs of visiting the West Coast including Maharashtra, on-and-off. After a gap of more than 10 days, scattered light rainfall occurred over Marathwada region in last 24 hours. Nanded and Aurangabad received 1 mm of rainfall, each.

Wind discontinuity is seen over the region as southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea and southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are converging over Marathwada which will give good rainfall over the region and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra region for next 2-3 days.

Marathwada is one of the regions which normally remains rain-deficient throughout the Monsoon season. This year, June ended with -17% rain deficiency in the area. Due to an absence of any rain, both July and August witnessed high rain deficiency. While July ended with a rain deficiency of 56%, August followed by a rain deficiency of 50 percent.

However, good spell of rain was witnessed in September due to which the rainfall deficiency in Marathwada dropped to 40%.
Following the footsteps of good Monsoon rain in September, October rains are likely to be positive for the region and light to moderate rainfall is likely over Jalna, Beed, Parbhani and other parts of Marathwada for next few days. The intensity of rain is likely to increase on 4th October.
