Odisha Rains

Southwest Monsoon had been active over Odisha and Chhattisgarh on numerous occasions this season. In fact, both the states have been observing scattered light to moderate rainfall during last 24 hours as well.

The month of August was much better in terms of rainfall for both the states than June and July. Successive weather systems which developed over Northwest Bay of Bengal had given good rains over most parts of the states.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. With this, Odisha along with Chhattisgarh is expected to witness light to moderate showers.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, parts of Odisha that received rain include Pendra 29 mm, Ambikapur received 2.2 mm and Bilaspur 1.2 mm of rainfall. Likewise in Chhattisgarh; Jharsuguda recorded 6.4 mm of rainfall while Chandbali received 73 mm and Sambalpur 0.2 mm of rainfall.

At present, Odisha and Chhattisgarh are witnessing deficient Monsoon rains.  As on August 24, the cumulative rainfall deficiency for Odisha stands at 14 percent less than its normal while Chhattisgarh is observing 5 percent as compared to its normal.

With more rains in offing, we expect the states to cover up the deficiency and head towards surplus rains. Furthermore, rains are likely to increase over both the states and light to moderate rains are a possibility during another 24-48 hours.
