September 5, 2015 1:35 PM |

Aurangabad rainAfter a long spell of dry weather, the interior parts of Maharashtra finally received some rain. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, the AWS (Automatic Weather Station) at Aurangabad received 45 mm of rain. During the same period Latur and Ahmednagar observed 23 mm and 20 mm of rain, respectively. Nandurbar also observed 3 mm of rain.

A trough has developed and is extending from North Maharashtra upto Kerala across Karnataka. This system has been vital in giving rain over some places in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.

The system is likely to prevail in the region for another 24 to 48 hours and continue giving rain over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. Isolated rain will also be observed over Vidarbha region.

According to the data available with Skymet, rainfall in Madhya Maharashtra is currently deficient by 43%, while Marathwada is staring at a deficiency of a whopping 52%. This spell of rain is not going to improve the condition but it has helped in increasing the moisture level, which is good for the crops.

The ground water level has receded in the region due to which the farmers are finding it difficult to irrigate their lands. And the poor Monsoon rains have further added to their misery.
