October 5, 2015 12:38 PM |

Maharashtra to receive scattered rain for the next 24 hoursSouthwest Monsoon remained bleak in Madhya Mahrashtra and Marathwada till September 30. By the end of the Monsoon season, Madhya Maharashtra was deficient by 33 percent, while Marathwada observed a deficiency of a good 40 percent. However, Vidarbha was within the normal range with a deficiency of 13 percent.

During the first week of October, most parts of Maharashtra received very good rains that have been compensating the Monsoon deficiency for the region. In the month of October, most areas of Maharashtra have received surplus rains.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Mahabaleshwar received 57 mm of rain, followed by Ahmednagar where 27 mm rain was observed. Also, Solapur recorded 24 mm of rain, Satara 14 mm, Kolhapur 11 mm, Alibag 7 mm, and Ratnagiri 4 mm.

After Monsoon, these rains have brought the region into the category of regions receiving surplus rainfall. This spell of rain will also be beneficial to the Rabi crops as the moisture content will increase and the water levels will get recharged to some extent.

However, the ongoing rainy spell will reduce significantly after 24 hours. South Coastal Maharashtra and South Madhya Maharashtra will continue to receive scattered rain for the next two to three days. Also, the rainfall intensity will again pick up over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra from October 9. On the other hand, Marathwada and Vidarbha will continue to observe subdued rainfall activity for the next one week.
