Maharashtra is all set to receive a good spell of Monsoon rains

July 24, 2016 8:54 AM |

Rain in MaharashtraSouthwest Monsoon is gaining strength over Maharashtra. The Vidarbha region in Maharashtra has been receiving light to moderate rainfall during the last 2 days. Places like Chandrapur, Amravati, and Wardha have received good rains so far.

Rains will continue for 24 hours in Vidarbha and gradually the rain belt will cover other parts of the state including Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. These regions will start receiving rains from Sunday onward.

This spell of rainfall could be attributed to the axis of the Monsoon trough. At present, it is passing through Ferozepur, Hisar, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Pendra, Bhubaneswar, and further towards central Bay of Bengal.

The upper air cyclonic circulation can also be seen lying over East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This system is moving slowly in a westerly direction. Thus, we can expect Monsoon rains to continue over Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada for another 24 hours.

All the four sub-divisions of Maharashtra have performed extremely well this season. These subdivisions are Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha and Konkan. At present, the state of Maharashtra is witnessing surplus rainfall to the tune of 26%. Moreover, all the sub divisions in the state have witnessed excess rains so far.
