The cyclonic circulation over Northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Saurashtra region intensified in to a low pressure area on Monday. This system was instrumental in bringing rain in Gujarat over the last 2 days. Therefore, Southwest Monsoon covered some more parts of the Gujarat state on June 26.

This weather system, along with a trough over South Gujarat, has given good rains over Saurashtra, particularly over southern parts during last 24 hours. During last 24 hours, Porbandar received 27.2 mm of rainfall, Veraval 7 mm and Surat 3 mm.

As of now the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Latitude 22.0°N/ Longitude 60.0°E, Latitude 22.0°N/ Longitude 65.0°E, Dwarka, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Sawai Madhopur, Gwalior, Lucknow, Pantnagar, Dehradun, Una and Jammu.

The low pressure area is moving in an westerly direction and could possibly become well marked low pressure area or depression during next 24 hours. It will remain in the sea, away from the Indian coast, and may affect Oman.

As the system moves away, the winds will turn to southerly/ southwesterly. We can expect rain intensity to increase in Saurashtra by June 29. Thereafter, the Monsoon surge will further strengthen over Gujarat and by June 30 most parts of Gujarat will start receiving good rains.

This system had first emerged near the Karnataka Coast, enhancing Monsoon surge along the West Coast. Gradually, it moved in a northerly direction.
