Close to five hundred pilgrims were stranded in Nepal’s mountainous region of Hilsa and Simikot during their journey to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. It was due to bad weather conditions that these devotees got stuck in these two regions while enrooting to the yatra. However the procedure of evacuation of the disciples from these region has been picking up pace. As cited by the spokesperson of the External Affair Ministry, Mr. Vikas Swarup, a total of 150 devotees out of 500 have been evacuated.
“Around 50 pilgrims were evacuated from Hilsa to Simikot and around 100 from Simikot to Nepalganj,” said Mr. Swarup. He added that Indian Embassy in Kathmandu is continuously in talks with the chief secretary, foreign secretary, home secretary, chief of army staff, and director general of military operations (DGMO) as well as senior police authorities on the ground to vacate the rest of the pilgrims.
As per Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), due to inclement weather conditions, they were able to evacuate only a limited number of pilgrims. Though Mr. Swarup has assured that the issue can be back to normal once the air services could be undertaken in an uninterrupted manner, however, every possible care of the sorties is been taken by the Nepal authorities and there are no scarcity of crucial items.
