Mumbai inches closer to its monthly rains as heavy showers make a comebackUpdated on July 29, 2016 01:30 PM: Mumbai rains surpass its monthly mean

Mumbai Rains which staggered for a good while during the month of July have picked up pace once again. The city has been receiving good rains and 110 mm rain has been received during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday.

Monsoon rains continue in full swing over Mumbai at present as well. In fact, the maximum city along with its suburbs continue to receive Monsoon showers. During the last three hours between 8:30 am and 11:30 am today, the city has recorded a good 24 mm of rainfall.

With this, Mumbai has finally surpassed its monthly rainfall for July. So far, Mumbai has received 819.6 mm of rainfall against its monthly rains of 799.7 mm. Just a few days ago, this target seemed unachievable as Mumbai rains were stuttering for a while.

Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, moderate to heavy Monsoon rains are expected to continue over Mumbai.

Published on July 29, 2016 08:30 AM: The week had begun on a rainy note with good rains being recorded over the maximum city. However, Mumbai rains had sort of taken a break for a day with only light rains being recorded just about a day before.

Now, it seems like rain gods are a little too pleased with the city of dreams once again as heavy Monsoon rains have picked up pace over Mumbai and the city has been recording good rains during the last 21 hours.

During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday to 5:30 am on Friday, Mumbai recorded a whopping 81 mm of rain. At present also, several parts of the city including a few areas in the suburbs have been receiving rain.

These rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is currently over South Gujarat and its adjoining areas. This weather system has also activated the off shore trough running along the West Coast further enhancing the ongoing Mumbai rains.

With the last 21 hours’ rainfall, Mumbai’s actual monthly rains stand at 766.6 mm which is just 33.1 mm short of its monthly mean. Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue over Mumbai. Thus, in just about a day’s time, Mumbai is expected to surpass its monthly rains which at one point of time seemed quite a daunting task.
