Mumbai records three digit rains, more intense showers ahead

Mumbai rains had taken a backseat and conditions had remained the same for quite some time. So much so that the maximum city had only been receiving light showers. In fact, there have also been several occasions in August when Mumbai received a mere trace of rain.

However, it looks like rain gods have finally answered to the prayers of the Mumbaikars who had been craving for a few good spells of rain. The Santa Cruz Observatory has received a whopping 57 mm of rain during the last 24 hours.

These rains have been widespread in nature as the Colaba observatory also received good rains of 106 mm of rains during the same time frame. Good showers have paid Mumbaikars a visit after a long time.

At present, two weather systems in the form of cyclonic circulations are over Rajasthan. Due to these weather systems, moisture incursion increased all along the West Coast. Thus, Monsoon surge got activated over the areas and several coastal cities including Mumbai received heavy to very heavy rains.

During the next 24 hours, similar conditions are expected to be observed over Mumbai. The intensity of rains may go down slightly but the city is expected to receive moderate showers. The possibility of a few heavy spells cannot be ruled out.

So far, Mumbai has recorded 514.3 mm of rain against its monthly average of 529.7 mm. Thus, in just about 24 hours, Mumbai is expected to surpass its monthly mean.
