Mumbai to get relief from searing heatwave conditions

The city of dreams, Mumbai is reeling under heat wave conditions, with maximum temperatures settling above 38°C.

The reason for these high temperatures over the region can be attributed to inland warm and dry easterly winds. The trough, developed along the West Coast was expected to change the wind pattern but it failed to do so. The trough was not strong enough to replace the prevailing easterlies over the city.

According to Skymet weather, the wind pattern is likely to change from warm and dry inland easterly winds to moist and relative cooler westerly winds. This would lead to a marginal drop in maximum temperatures after 24 hours and then gradually by 2 to 4 degrees over the city.

The average maximum temperature for the month of February is 31.2°C for Mumbai. Today was the third day in the month when maximum temperatures climbed above 38°C mark. February 19 was the first day when the city recorded a maximum of 38.8°C.

The all-time high temperature for the city of Mumbai was recorded on February 25, 1966, when the day maximums reached 39.6°C.

As per meteorologist at Skymet weather, similar weather conditions are expected over the city for next 24 hours. However, a change is expected in another 24 hours.
