Pleasant weather in Kerala as Monsoon like rains commence

May 29, 2016 5:10 PM |

Kerala-MonsoonThe entire months of March and April were almost dry in Kerala. No good news was heard in the first week of May as well. Many districts in the state started receiving scattered rains from May 10-11. Now, we are approaching the onset of phase of Monsoon and rain intensity has picked up considerably during the last 4 days.

Consistent rainfall has been recorded in most of the enlisted 14 weather stations of Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep. This is the most important prerequisite for the onset of Monsoon. Moderate westerly winds are blowing over the Kerala coast and a feeble trough is also seen along the West Coast.

We expect that good rainfall will continue for another two to three days. Gradually the rain belt will cover more parts of the West Coast including Konkan & Goa.

Temperatures were in higher thirties before this spell of rain. However, a significant drop has been witnessed now with maximums coming down to mid-thirties. Night temperatures have also decreased significantly, leading to pleasant weather conditions during morning and evening hours.

This year, pre-Monsoon activities were scanty throughout India including Kerala. Thundershowers generally continue throughout the months of March and April. However, Kerala received scanty pre-Monsoon rains this year. Therefore, Monsoon rains in Kerala will be even more endearing this year.
