Heavy rains have been recorded in the state of Maharashtra, particularly in Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha which was witnessing dry weather for a long time. The rising 30°C temperatures that were prevailing from a long time took a break after rains lashed the state.

In fact, rains and hailstorm along with squalls were reported in the district of Osmanabad, Pandarpur, and Latur last night. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Beed 15 mm, Sholapur 14 mm, and Udgir observed light rains of 7 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation persists over the northern parts of Karnataka and adjoining Maharashtra extending up to 0.9 km above sea level. Moreover, an upper air trough also extends from this system to Maldives across Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep Island.

In the wake of both these weather systems, rains showed up in parts of Maharashtra. Moreover, the atmospheric instability is also present over the region.

Skymet Weather also reiterates that the southern parts of Maharashtra can further brace for these scattered showers to continue for another 24-36 hours. Due to high temperatures and available moisture content, the probability of developing convective clouds also increases resulting in rain and thundershower activities over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.

Thus, Maharashtra particularly Madhya Maharashtra can expect short duration intense showers that pour over limited regions.
