Prolonged spell of rain expected in North India from Saturday

May 28, 2015 11:55 PM |

Rain in DelhiClear skies, soaring temperatures and hot winds are what the people of North India are experiencing at the moment. In the last few days, several places in the region have seen the day temperature record close to 45°C and beyond. The above normal temperature has also led to heat wave conditions in some parts of the region.

However, Skymet’s weather models show a Western Disturbance approaching Jammu and Kashmir, which is expected to give rain in the state on Saturday (May 30). The system will then start moving eastward and affect Punjab and north Rajasthan on May 31. During this period some good amounts of rain is expected in the region. Isolated places may experience heavy showers.

By June 1, the weather system will touch Haryana, Delhi-NCR and its adjoining areas like west Uttar Pradesh. The Western Disturbance is going to remain in the region till June 3, before weakening and clearing off. According to weathermen at Skymet, some places in the Gangetic plains could also be affected by this system.

Between June 2 and June 3, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh will also feel the impact of the Western Disturbance, in terms of good rainfall.

Meanwhile, there’s also a cyclonic circulation in north Rajasthan, which has changed the winds from northwesterlies to southwesterlies in parts of North India. These winds are moist in nature and therefore provide relief from the heat. The cyclonic circulation is expected to work in tandem with the Western Disturbance to give some good weather over the region.

This prolonged spell of rain is definitely going to pull down the temperatures in North India and provide relief from hot and uncomfortable conditions being observed in the region for quite some time.
