The Northeastern states of the country have been reeling under dry weather conditions since winters made its onset in India. However, parts of the northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh and Assam did witness some rain and thundershowers along with snow accumulating in the higher reaches.

Soon after, the weather became dry once again. Normally, during this time of the year, Northeast India observes occasional rain and thundershowers.

As per Skymet Weather, now, heavy to very heavy rains are expected to show up in parts of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. In fact, one or two districts in Arunachal Pradesh can even brace for some hefty showers as well.

These rains are expected to continue over all the three states also lashing a few areas of Manipur and Nagaland until February 23. Thereafter, the intensity of rain and snow will reduce significantly. Yet, scattered rain and thundershowers are expected to keep lashing East Assam and Arunachal Pradesh until February 24.

Moreover, isolated rains are also likely over Tripura and Mizoram. The higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh can even witness some scattered snow accumulation. These rain and snow will result in temperatures to drop by 3-4 degrees across parts of northeast India.

Though the states of Northeast India are predicted to observe light showers, these rains are still not expected to bring many changes in the prevailing rainfall deficiency over the ‘seven sisters’ states’.
