Updated on May 23, 2016 04:00 PM (IST): Rain in North India and Delhi brings much relief from oppressive heat

Several places in North India, particularly the plains, were witnessing nothing less than heatwave conditions in the last 2 days. In fact, the highest maximum temperature of 47.5°C was recorded at Hisar in Haryana on Sunday.

However, a fresh Western Disturbance started affecting weather over the region since today morning. There is also an induced cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab which will continue to bring light rain and thundershowers over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. By tomorrow, we can expect rain and thundershowers to reduce over the plains but pre-Monsoon activity will continue over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for another 2 to 3 days.

A trough from the cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan is extending up to Gangetic West Bengal, across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. This will bring rain and thundershowers along the foothills of the Himalayas.

This spell of rain will bring down temperatures both in the hills and plains. Even on Monday, maximum did not rise about 41 degree Celsius. Temperatures will come down marginally in Punjab and Haryana as well.
