March 7, 2017 12:54 PM |

Rain in ChennaiAfter recording rain and thundershowers during the last couple of days, rains in Chennai have taken a back seat for now. However, this break will be a brief one as rains will soon a make a comeback.

According to Skymet Weather, at present, the trough is running from Lakshadweep region up to South Chhattisgarh across Interior Tamil Nadu.

For the next 24 to 48 hours, rain activity will be confined to interior parts of the state. Weather over Chennai will mainly remain dry during this period but one or two isolated spell of rain cannot be ruled out. Sky will remain partly cloudy to cloudy over the state capital.

Thereafter, as the trough is likely to move eastwards, rain belt will once again grip coastal stations. By March 10 and 11, Chennai will once again start recording scattered rain and thundershowers.

This rainy spell is most likely to carry on for at least 2-3 days, paving way for some pleasant weather conditions.

As of now, with lots of moisture available in the atmosphere, minimum temperatures over Chennai will continue to settle several notches above normal around 26°C or 27°C.  Meanwhile, day maximums will hover around 32°C-33°C, again a degree above the average.
