Rains to reduce in Northeast India

February 24, 2017 1:56 PM |

Rain in Northeast IndiaAt present, Northeast India is the only pocket in the country to witness rain activity during the last few days. Meanwhile, remaining parts have been reeling under warm weather conditions.

All the northeastern states, particularly Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya have recorded fairly widespread moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers. However, during the last 24 hours, these rains have reduced significantly during the last 24 hours.

This rainy spell can be attributed to the easterly movement of Western Disturbance, which traveled over Eastern Himalayas after affecting weather over Jammu and Kashmir. In addition to this, a trough was also prevailing over the region.

Now both the systems have become less marked. As a result, rains have reduced significantly over most parts of the region. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Anni 13 mm, Pasighat 9.1 mm, and Tinsukia 8 mm.

Further, these rains will reduce more and weather will go mainly dry. But, parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya will continue to record isolated showers.

So far, Northeast India has been rain deficient. Though the region has recorded some heavy showers during the last few days but we are afraid that they will be not be able to cover up the prevailing rain deficiency.
