Rainy spell approaching Northeast India

Rain in Northeast India (2)After remaining dry for last few days, rains are all set to make a comeback to Northeast India. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a fresh rainy spell is approaching the region and light rain has already been observed over some parts during last 24 hours.

Light rain will be observed over entire northeastern states but intensity will be more over Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura. Rains will further pick up pace from October 7 onwards and moderate rain will occur over the region.

As per Skymet, a cyclonic circulation in central Bay of Bengal will be responsible for this wet spell. The weather system is likely to get more marked and intensify into a low pressure area. It will possibly pass Odisha and West Bengal coast and head towards Northeast India.

Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded during the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday.

This also indicates the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from the region. Minimal weather activity will be witnessed in the region from now onward.

Rains during Southwest Monsoon 2015 were not impressive as compared to the previous years. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya finished with normal rains. The region comprising Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura was rain-deficient by 30%.
