Three digit rains observed over West Coast and East India

June 25, 2016 7:54 PM |

Three digit rains observed over West Coast and East IndiaSouthwest Monsoon has finally picked up pace and good rains have been recorded over many areas for quite some time now. The most active pockets currently are the West Coast and some parts of North West Bengal. Both these areas have recorded very good rains.

Heavy Monsoon rains along the West Coast including Coastal Maharashtra and adjoining areas can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation, which has formed in the Arabian Sea. The off shore trough along the West Coast is also a major contributor to good rains over the region.

On the other hand, the secondary arm of the trough is moving from North Madhya Pradesh to Arunachal Pradesh across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and North West Bengal. Due to this, heavy Monsoon rains have occurred over many parts of North West Bengal. Isolated pockets of Jharkhand have also received heavy Monsoon showers.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am, Cooch Behar recorded a good 218 mm of rain followed by Harnai where 213 mm of rain was received. Other areas to have received three digit rains include Alibag 138 mm, Mumbai 115 mm, and Jamshedpur 106 mm.

Heavy rains will continue over the entire West Coast and some parts of East India. Active to vigorous Monsoon conditions will remain over these areas.
