Tourists advised not to venture towards Andaman for now

Vacationing in Andaman right now might not be a good idea as the rains are likely to continue over the region. The latest models indicate that the rains will continue over the region for next 24 to 48 hours over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

In a series of tweets, the union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured the citizens by saying, "All the tourists who are stranded in Havelock Island are safe. The government has made all the preparations to evacuate them."

In the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on December 07, Port Blair has received heavy rains of 212 mm. The fact is such heavy rainfall is common over Andaman & Nicobar Islands around this time of the year. As of now, more than 1400 tourists are stranded in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and traveling to the region will be a serious waste of money and time as the skies are expected to be cloudy till the latter half of the next week.

After the heavy rainfall for next 48 hours, light to moderate rains will continue till December 12 and 13. Even after that, the sky is likely to remain cloudy as the cyclonic storm Vardah passes on. The ideal time to visit Andaman and Nicobar islands would be sometime later next week.

People vacationing around Christmas and New Year can relax as there is no weather interruption predicted over the islands for the time being.
