April 24, 2015 4:52 PM |

Rain in BangaloreKarnataka has been receiving good showers in pockets since the beginning of April. Raichur received 62 mm of rain and Bangalore 53.4 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday.

With 53 mm of rain on Thursday, Bangalore has recorded almost 4 times the normal average rainfall. The city has recorded 144 mm of rain so far and witnessed 12 rainy days. Seems like it has rained every alternate day in the city.

April is the hottest month for Bangalore with an average temperature of 34.1°C. the heat coupled with humidity triggers thunderstorm activity followed by rains. However, this year the city received unusually heavy rainfall and left the monthly average rainfall of 40 mm far behind.

We cannot rule out that there have been occasions when the city received more than 100 mm of rain in the month of April, but 144 mm is definitely unusual. On and off pre-monsoon showers will continue in Bangalore in the coming week as well. However, the city will not be able to surpass the all-time highest rainfall of 323.8 mm, recorded in the year 2001. In 2011 also the city received a whopping 217.1 mm of rainfall.
